Us, the people and Hong Kong - Part two

This Sathurday I decided to bring Mum and Per to Lantau Island to view the Tin Tan Buddha (Giant Buddha) and visit the fishing village Tai O. We took the ferry from Central and then the bus up the mountain.

We were a bit disappointed that the statue and temple was from the 90s, and that the old monastery was not open to visits, we only got a glimpse of it up in the forest... The trip was still worth it though.

The newly built temple was also very nice to look at.

Inside there was a cermony taking place.

Outside the air was thick from incenses.

After strolling around in a fake village built only for the tourists' consumption we took the bus to Tai O instead. We spent the bus ride down the mountain talking about summer plans and other things.

We took a boat trip to see the village. It was built in a very special way to survive the tide.

The weater was not great, but the trip was well worth it.

After visiting the village we went out to deeper water to try to get a look at the famous pink dolphines, something I had never heard of before.

This is not the best picture, but after a few minutes we actually spotted some pink dolphines very close by. The boat was full of excitement.

We were all photographing the best we could.

Mum was just enjoying the ride.

A better view of Tai O.

Afterwards we spent an hour walking around and looking at all the interesting food they offered.

 Others were just relaxing.

We were curious about this food...

But in the end we went for waffles instead.

In the evening we went to Ladie's Market to buy some souvernires and then to eat Korean BBQ. Too much food (but so tasty)!

The dessert is pure joy.

Us, the people and Hong Kong - Part one

My mum and her boyfriend Per came to visit me this week-end and we did so many things. The first day they came to visit me at campus, we went to Damond Hill and saw a nunnery and we also had hot pot together with Diana and my room mate Cammy, but I did not have any batteries in my camera so there are no pictures from that day. Here are a few pictures from the places we visited the second day.

First thing we did was to take the old tram up the mountain to watch the view from Victoria Peak. We went early to avoid the other turists.

One thing I love about Hong Kong is all the flower pots around the city. I guess I find it so amazing since it would be too much work in Sweden where it is so cold in the winter.

Mum and the view, it was better when it was sunny, but still pretty amazing.

This makes me wanna be a tree.

I am watching you looking at the view.

After the peak we went back into central to walk around in the areas Soho and Sheung Wan.

Central. Don't look at her, look at what's around her.

You just have to turn left, walk up some stairs and here you are.

Found some new music along the streets in Soho.

Then the sun came out and it felt like spring again.

Mum reminded me that we used to have a lamp like this in our doll house, we still do I presume. Like a sign of now and then, and that we aren't so far away from each other.

All these people around us and within us, how can we find the time to get to know them? We must take the time.

I love the painting of the babies up to the left, a picture found in every market but still very cool.

 Maybe my new favorite wall.

We found this treasure hidden in an off set street, a bit to expensive for my taste though.

 Some old money.

The Antique Market near Sheung Wan.

We started walking from Sheung Wan towards Sai Wan, I just kept photographing people.

There were many stores selling dried fish and food of some kind. Most of the things we couldn't identify but this one looked quite familiar.

I am always a bit concerned with the meat being so exposed around here, but I guess they know what they are doing.

I'm sorry about the street light ruining the picture, and I'm sorry about fooling you into believing I was gonna buy your porcelain when all I wanted was a better view.

There is just something about old cupples holding each other tight that seems very strong and beutiful and some way romantic.

We bought some vegeterian street food, it was okay and probably quite unhealthy, but I just don't want no meat.

We sat down at the stears next to a bear sipping fellow, with this view.

When we got tired we took the duble-decker tram back to central.

Then the star ferry bac to TST, it was to bad the weather wasn't better.

Next to the harbour there were more romance in the air, people getting wedding photos.

We took the metro to Hung Hom to visit the Museum of History, it had started raining.

It was a really good museum where they had rebuilt whole streets from the old days. Unfortanly we spent too much time looking at rocks so we had to rush through modern history. I think I will go back another day.

We went for dinner at Tim Ho Wan, a famous dim sum place and the cheapest restaurant in the world with a Michelin star. Pretty damn good.
